Fashion in the 1980s and 1990s
When the 1980s hit, men and women's fashion went from skin tight and body hugging clothes to looser shirts and tight, close-fitting trousers.
Many movies, T.V. shows, and celebrities led the people of the 80s to great fashion trends. For example, Madonna was one of the most famous fashion icons for women and teenage girls with the short skirts worn over leggings, bras worn as outer clothing, untidy hair, crucifix jewellery, and fishnet gloves. Another example is the movieFlashdance, which made ripped sweatshirts popular.
80s fashion gave us Guess jeans, wedges, jelly shoes and bracelets, satin ties, and wearing polo shirts with the collar up. This era also brought back polka dots, zebra stripes, and other funky patterns. Brand names also became important as a fashion statement, making Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein household names.
80s fashion styles for men often included such things as acid washed jeans, parachute pants, Reebok high tops, Converse high tops, and jean jackets. During this era, accessories also needed to have high impact. For this reason, large gaudy accessories were proudly displayed. Earrings were either large hoops or long and dangly. Necklaces’, bangles and bracelets were layered and often had pendants hanging from them.

The 1990s Fashion!
In the 1990s decade began with the grunge look, ratty sweaters and long, unkempt locks with ripped jeans. As time progressed the grunge look was replaced with hip-hop-inspired over sized jeans.
The grunge look included long hair and sneakers in a splash of colors not the typical colors. Apart from the grunge look, the 90's fashion clothing was also about cropped jackets that hugged the body. For bottom wear, women chose trouser/pants that were straight legged or flared, whereas ,en went more for the baggy look. Capri pants and cargo pants were also widely popular.
As time progressed, leather became another fashion trend . 90's fashion included a lot of faux leather clothing. A typical girl's outfit would include a halter top under a leather jacket paired with a mini skirt and high heels or platforms.
In the early 1990s, popular fashion trends for men included flannel, boat shoes, converse, acid wash denim jackets, Levis, leather jackets, and much more of that sort. Towards the middle of this decade, men adapted to more hawaiian shirts, loafers, and graphic t-shirts. Thus leading to the takeover of hip-hop fashion, such as oversized baseball jackets, bomber jackets, gold over sized jewelry, baggy jeans, overalls, and tracksuits.
The 1990s could pretty much be described as a "revival" of trends from previous decades, with the addition of new ones.
